In China, Internet-based digital content industries are evidently leading the way. Legend Capital is said to have injected tens of millions of US dollars into instant messaging (IM) platform supplier Beijing Dianji Technology Co., Ltd., according to news on March 6, 2009.
Marbridge also reported that Wang Zhidong, president and CEO of Dianji, has confirmed the company has received funding. Wang was the founder and former chief of China’s largest web portal Sina Corp. China’s number of broadband users rose by 1.2 million to 84.6 million in January 2009, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)
Spokesperson for Legend Capital confirmed that the company had contacted with Dianji Technology before 2009 and reached an investment agreement this January. However, the spokesperson did not specify the amount of the investment.
Established in April 2001, Legend Capital is a subsidiary of Legend Holdings Ltd. and engaged in venture capital investment. Currently, the Beijing-headquartered company manages more than US$ 100 million via two funds and invests in Tianya.cn, Zhongsou.com, as well as Oak Pacific Interactive.
Founded in December 2001, Dianji Technology started with corporate collaboration software services. The company is now moving into the research and development of Internet collaborative application and IM platforms (Lava-Lava). Dianji gained a combined investment of US$ 13 million in February 2004 from investors including US-based Fidelity International Limited.
